Long Beach

By: Maureen Therese

Long Beach often gets lost in the mix of Los Angeles and Orange County. The city is conveniently located in-between both areas, yet offers plenty of desirable amenities of its own.

Long Beach is a great destination for fitness, dining, and waterfront recreation. In addition, there is an endless lineup of exciting events that take place throughout the year.

1. Take a bike ride along the waterfront

Take a bike ride along the waterfront - Top Ten Travel List

The Long Beach Shoreline Pedestrian path is an easy, fast, flat, scenic 3.1 mile ride. I love running or biking and feeling like I got in a nice little workout while still taking in fantastic views of the Pacific. This path is great for beginners or those looking for a quick workout because the distance isn’t intimidating.

Visit the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden - Top Ten Travel List

This peaceful garden is located on the campus of California State University but is open to the public as well. My favorite feature was the koi pond. You can feed the fish and they will follow you all around the garden. The garden is manicured and up kept providing an appealing aesthetic experience. This quiet oasis is a perfect place to enjoy a scenic break away from the beach crowds!

Home to the Aquarium of the Pacific, waterfront restaurants, Spirit Cruises, shopping and more, you have endless opportunities for an entire day of beachside fun! There are many fun theme restaurants with patios facing the water. Events are always on the lineup year-round. The souvenir shops carry nice Long Beach/California apparel and knick knacks. Overall, it's the best place in Long Beach for shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Long Beach is home to many waterfront restaurants. Most restaurants in the area offer outdoor seating; this is a great way to take advantage of the beautiful weather! My favorites are Yard House and Tequila Jacks. Both offer outdoor decks featuring fabulous water views. Even in common chains like PF Changs and Chilis are much better when you factor in the lively location!
