The best Indian food in the Cincinnati metro can be found at Ambar, a local gem specializing in Northern Indian cuisine. The authentic cuisine has led to it being rated the best Indian restaurant in the city.
On the menu, you will find all your favorite Indian appetizers, a wide variety of Naan breads, and a variety of Chicken, Lamb, and Vegetarian entrees.
The highlight here is really the appetizers and Naan Bread. The veggie pakoras are amongst the best I've ever had and the Naan bread is out-of-this-world.
As far as entrees go, the Aloo Gobi and Navratan Korma were both delicious and full of flavor. These veggie filled dishes are perfect for vegetarians, as well as anyone else trying to get in more veggies for the day. You can customize the entree according to your spice preference. As I prefer to taste all the unique spices and flavors in the dish, I tend to order on the mild side.
If you have any room leftover, treat yourself to Kheer (rice pudding) or a Mango Lassi for dessert.
Unfortunately, Ambar does not serve a lunch buffet. This is a shame as a buffet is a great way to mix and match several different Indian entrees and appetizers without having to commit to a high price tag. The entrees are definitely on the pricey side, so I recommend splitting a few amongst your party so you can try out several dishes.
Service was decent enough, attentive without being obtrusive.
The decor is a bit limited and the restaurant a bit casual for the prices they are charging. That being said, the space appears clean and maintained.
Ambar is a decent choice for quality Indian food in Cincinnati. Although the menu is very overpriced and they do not offer a lunch buffet, the appetizers and Naan bread are especially delicious. The variety of vegetarian entrees and apps makes it the perfect choice for a health conscious lunch.
