Mayfel's
Mayfel's is an eclectic restaurant serving Louisiana-inspired cuisine in bustling downtown Asheville. On any given weekend morning, you will see tourists waiting to get a seat on the beautiful outdoor patio. Offering a diverse menu of breakfast & lunch offerings, plus one of the best outdoor patios in town, Mayfel's is the perfect weekend brunch splurge destination, hence the popularity.
Food
Start off your meal with a delicious authentic New Orleans style beignet. Rather large and priced at just a few bucks for 2, this is the way to go in terms of apps. Enjoy a cup of local coffee and people watch as you await your entree.
You will find lots of Southern inspired brunch plates on the menu including Gumbo, Fried Green Tomatoes, Po'Boy, Jambalaya, and Chicken Creole Pasta. Additionally, there are number of great breakfast options including a delicious Veggie Omelet and Biscuits and Gravy.
A number of entrees can be made vegan including the Po'Boy and the Biscuits and Gravy (veggie gravy). As a bonus, pricing is a bit more affordable than nearby foodie destinations.
Service
Service is attentive despite the high tourist traffic. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt.
Atmosphere
While the interior is cramped and noisy, the patio is a beautiful place to dine during the warmer months. Note that there can be a lengthy wait on busy weekends, however, the lively outdoor setting warrants a wait.
Final Remarks
Mayfel's is a great breakfast/brunch destination in the city. The menu offerings are unique, the ambiance is nice, and service is great. Anyone seeking an affordably priced foodie destination should definitely give Mayfel's a try.
