Bread and Butter Deli
Skip all the crowded tourist restaurants in Tarpon Springs in favor of something a bit more local. Bread and Butter Deli is a casual deli serving Greek and Middle Eastern cuisine. The menu is really diverse here - there are just so many options here for everyone including numerous vegetarian and vegan choices.
Food
Everything is made fresh from scratch here from family recipes passed down through the generations. There are so many options to choose amongst, that it can be an overwhelming experience for first time visitors. Scan the menu in advance so you are not flustered when you walk in.
A few of their most popular selections include homemade soups (8 options with 2 vegetarian choices), Stuffed Grape Leaves, Spanakopita, Homemade Hummus and Falafel, Tabouli, Lavash Roll Up, and Stuffed Peppers.
If you love a great Thanksgiving Dinner anytime of the year, you will want to try their Turkey Lunch special. This deal includes fresh Turkey (they carve a 30 lb Turkey every day!), mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, and cranberry. A great deal for just 10 bucks.
Another fantastic deal is the salad sampler. For this special, you will get to choose 5 salad samples for just 9 bucks. There are over 20 delicious options. Tabouli, Greek Salad, Hummus and Pita, Cucumber Salad, and Tri color pasta are a few of the tasty options available.
The Mediterranean Plate is another one to try. For 9 bucks, you get 2 falafel (so good!), hummus, tabouli, Baba Ganoush, veggie stuffed grape leaves, cucumber salad with yogurt, pickled turnips, and pita bread.
Service
Service is great here. The staff is patient with newcomers attempting to choose amongst the immense variety of options available.
Atmosphere
There is a market on-site where you can pick up side items, food to go, and fresh non-GMO produce. The seating area inside is limited, although the garden greenhouse-like ambiance is pretty. If the weather is tolerable, they offer a nice garden patio. Unfortunately, smoking is allowed - a major disappointment in this day and age.
Update: As of 2023, we have heard that this restaurant appears to be dirty. While it appeared clean enough during our visit, conditions may have changed.
Final Remarks
Bread and Butter is a decent local stop for quality homemade Greek and Middle Eastern cuisine. Food is fresh, affordable, and most of all, totally delicious! You are bound to be back for a return visit before leaving Tarpon Springs!
