The Victor Cafe is an old-world Italian establishment in South Philly. Since opening in 1918, this family-owned and operated restaurant continues to please loyal locals as well as new tourists.
This local gem is known for their delicious food and live opera performances. You may remember seeing the interior in the movie Rocky. For authentic Italian fare, served in a classy elegant setting, there really is no better choice in Philly.
The Victor Cafe serves your classic lineup of Italian dishes. Definitely start with the Caesar salad - note anchovies (yuck!) are included, so be sure to specify to remove if desired. As far as entrees go, the Eggplant and Chicken Parmigiana dishes we tried were both fantastic. As a bonus, you will receive fresh Faragalli's bread and pesto dipping sauce to start your meal.
For dessert, there is no better choice than Victor's tiramisu. What a wonderful dessert, this coming from someone who does not have a big sweet tooth. This tiramisu is widely considered to be the best in the city!
Other interesting dishes on the lineup include Ravioli Titta Ruffo (porcini mushroom ravioli topped with a gorgonzola cream sauce and tomatoes and walnuts) and Fettuccine Verdi (pasta tossed with a light cream sauce and spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, and romano cheese).
Service is great - very friendly. We ordered takeout here on one occasion and the food was ready exactly when specified. They wrapped everything really well so it would stay warm and the presentation was still great.
The ambiance here is just perfect for a classy date night or celebratory occasion. With the live music, gorgeous old fashioned decor, and fantastic service, there really is not a better choice in the city.
The Victor Cafe is the place to go for a wonderful sit down Italian dining experience in Philly. If you are seeking the best food, combined with the best service and ambiance, look no further.
