If you are exploring Old City for the day, give Ole Cafe a try for breakfast. This local gem is conveniently located within walking distance of many attractions. Featuring amazing house coffee and a diverse lineup of filling breakfast fare, it is my top pick for breakfast and coffee in the Old City neighborhood. As for what to try, they serve the most amazing Shakshuka I've ever tried!
Cafe Ole is most well-known for their Shakshuka. If you have never tried this dish before, let me convince you to try it! This traditional Middle Eastern dish consisting of poached eggs in a spiced stewed tomato based sauce. It's available vegetarian, vegan, and with chicken. The Veggie Shakshuka with hummus is the highlight of the menu. Once you taste this amazing dish, you will never want to order anything else for breakfast! As this unique dish is not commonly found, you really need to try it while you are in the vicinity.
Other great choices include bagel sandwiches, crepes, croissant french toast, and breakfast wraps. They also offer daily pastry treats. The house coffee here is amazing (and it's bottomless!) so you can relax a bit and enjoy a refill on the house.
Service is always friendly here. The food never takes too long. As a minor inconvenience, it's a bit hard to try to read the chalkboard menu, especially on busy days when there is a big line. I recommend scanning the menu online prior to your visit.
This cafe is located in Philly's most historic neighborhood so it definitely has that old world charm factor going for it. There is a small area to dine inside as well as a lovely patio waiting as soon as the warmer months roll around.
Treat yourself to the Shakshuka and a cup of the best coffee in Old City at Cafe Ole. A favorite of both locals and tourists, this local gem continues to be the perfect place for regulars and visitors to enjoy good food and drinks in a relaxed local setting. This was one of the first cafes I tried on my first day exploring Old City, and it is the one I come back to most often!
