Buttercream Bakehouse is a local bakery which specializes in buttercream wedding cakes. It's also a coffeehouse/cafe serving pastries, coffee, and light breakfast/lunch fare. This laid-back cafe is a quieter alternative to the more hectic coffeehouses on Main Street.
A light menu of breakfast and lunch fare, along with a tantalizing pastry case greet you when you walk into Buttercream. Bagels, pastries, muffins, turnovers, and scones are a few of the treats you can enjoy here. Additionally, a small selection of breakfast sandwiches and quiche are available.
The highlight here is the delicious vegetable quiche, by far the most savory in town. Skip all the sugary desserts in favor of this wonderful homemade delicacy.
The coffee here is just alright. First off, they do not use beans from a local roaster, but rather Gevalia, which can be found at grocery stores and Walmart. The regular joe was decent enough, but not great. There are many local coffeehouses in this town, so it is hard to bypass them in favor of ordinary coffee you can purchase yourself at the grocery store.
In short, come to Buttercream for the delicious quiche. Go elsewhere for a great cup of local coffee.
On a sour note, the service was not friendly here at all. The staff was not pleasant, did not say one word. No hello, thanks, nothing. Hiring friendlier wait staff would be a smart move.
Buttercream is located away from congested Main Street, and thus, may be a good choice if you are seeking a quieter alternative. On the downside, there really is not much ambiance here. Decor is lacking and the shop does not have that bustling energetic vibe which most businesses downtown enjoy.
Buttercream is a decent place to grab a cup of joe and a pastry/light breakfast entree. If your prime motivation is avoiding the crowds and hassle of finding parking downtown, than Buttercream may work for you. For anyone else, there are better coffeeshops and cafes lining bustling Main Street.
