Pasto is the only Italian dining establishment in downtown Flagstaff, as well as one of the few options in the region. Despite the attractive modern design and lovely outdoor patio, I cannot recommend Pasto due to extravagant menu prices, lack of diversity in terms of entree options, and lackluster service.
Pasto has a very small menu with just a few pasta dishes to choose amongst. We tried out the Angel Hair Pomdoro and the Five Cheese Ravioli. Neither was that good, servings were incredibly small (just 3 pieces of ravioli) and the quality of the dishes definitely did not warrant the hefty price tag. Dinner prices range from $12-25. Pasto should add a few more options to their menu, including a few more vegetarian options.
Service was really poor at Pasto, in comparison to other restaurants downtown. The server was inattentive, slow (despite us being the sole customers), and did not seem to care less whether or not we enjoyed the meal.
Pasto has a nice modern interior look with big windows looking out into the downtown area. It could be a nice choice during the holiday season, as you can take in the
downtown tree and Christmas decor while you dine. Unfortunately, the poor service and mediocre food does not warrant a visit.
The outside patio is the best downtown, consisting of a beautiful leafy, shady garden patio surrounded by aspen trees. Unfortunately, the mediocre overpriced food and bad service cannot make up for the beautiful outdoor space. Hopefully in the future, Pasto will take advantage of their prime setting and put a little more effort into finding more dedicated
waitstaff, as well as a more creative chef.
Pasto is an easy skip in Flagstaff, which is a shame as it is one of the only Italian restaurants in the area. There are better restaurants in town if you are looking to spend a lot of money on a nice meal out. Pasto needs to lower menu prices, as well as hire friendlier and more attentive waitstaff to compete with other Italian restaurants in the area.
