Pomegranate Cafe is a great little casual vegan eatery, featuring a varied menu of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free selections. Pomegranate offers wonderful outdoor seating, allowing you to enjoy a relaxing meal in an attractive setting.
Pomegranate is conveniently located right next door to Trader Joe's, so before/after you grocery shop, you can treat yourself to a fantastic healthy meal.
Pomegranate offers a full vegan menu, with many items being customizable to be made gluten-free and/or vegetarian. There are so many different offerings from fresh juices and smoothies, a full Espresso bar, raw dishes, egg based entrees, and fun comfort food selections. It's really a unique offering for a vegan restaurant.
The Americano and Mocha drinks from the Espresso bar were fantastic, although a bit overpriced. Organic beer and wine, smoothies, and fresh squeezed juicer drinks are available to compliment your meal.
On Pomegranate's brunch menu, you will find many enticing options including breakfast burritos & scrambles, Banana Berry French Toast, and Wild Western Tacos. Enabling vegetarians to substitute eggs for the tofu is a fantastic idea. It's not that often that you find a vegan restaurant offering vegetarian substitutions: a smart ideal as it allows Pomegranate to reach a much larger customer base.
Most items can be made gluten-free (even the French Toast!) and are designated as so with a GFO marked next to the listing. Gluten-free bread for the sandwiches and a delicious Ancient grain toast served with whipped vegan butter and jam is available.
The Breakfast Bowl, made with eggs or tofu, is loaded with tempery beans, cheese, potatoes, and roasted veggies. It was amazing, even with the gluten-free substitution of corn tortillas. I highly recommend this dish as a great filling breakfast entree for both vegetarians and gluten-free diners.
The daily scramble (eggs or tofu with veggies), served with Ancient grain toast and harvest hash browns, was also great, however, not as delicious as the burrito bowl.
Lunch at Pomegranate includes an assortment of filling salads, sandwiches, wraps, and appetizers. Here you will find healthy veggie loaded salads and wraps and quinoa bowls, in addition to comforting appetizers like a hummus plate served with veggies and Queen Creek Olives and a big plate of satisfying nachos. Heftier options include rice and veggie stuffed burritos and tacos.
Our waiter was adequate - nothing special really. He was prompt and knowledgeable about the menu, but not overly friendly or enthusiastic.
Indoor and outdoor seating is available, depending on your tolerance for the Phoenix heat! Even during the brutal summer season, you can still enjoy the nice patio seating thanks to the wonderful misters. Dining here was an enjoyable experience, a mini oasis, especially when surrounded by unique cactus and desert plants.
Overall, Pomegranate Cafe is one of the best choices in the Phoenix area for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free travelers. The varied menu, ability to accommodate guests with multiple allergies, and lush outdoor seating creates the perfect casual setting for a healthy, allergy friendly weekend brunch or afternoon lunch date.
