One of the things that immediately drew me to Le Clos was the manager's willingness to provide gluten-free substitutions for guests avoiding traditional wheat-based meals. After stopping in a handful of restaurants, I finally found one that was able to fully accommodate our dietary preferences.
Several items on the menu, including seafood, meat dishes, and pasta, can be prepared gluten-free. They even have gluten-free rolls on hand for guests, ensuring that those with allergies can enjoy a full meal.
Besides simply offering a gluten-free menu, Le Clos went above and beyond by specially customizing a pasta dish, as well as ensuring that all staff members knew about our strict avoidance of any gluten products.
While some restaurants tend to act irritated and inconvenienced by gluten-free guests, Le Clos treated us no less than any other diner. In fact, the manager also followed a gluten-free diet, and all staff seemed to be well aware of the specifics of the diet. It's great to have a restaurant actually listen to their customers and even recommend substitutions.
One the menu, you will find a few light appetizers like soup and salad, a full range of meat and seafood based entrees, a few desserts, and an extensive wine selection.
We started with the gluten-free rolls served with olive oil, which were some of the best I've ever tasted. The Salade Le Clos (Greens, spinach, shredded beets and carrots, sprouts, berries, and a vinaigrette dressing) was exceptional as well, and definitely large enough to split with your date.
The Garden Pasta which can easily be prepared both gluten-free and vegan, is the perfect choice for guests with multiple food sensitivities. The gluten-free pasta was a great consistency, not mushy at all. A blend of garlic, shallots, tomatoes, zucchini, mushrooms, and herbs led to a tasty, slightly spicy dish.
Each dish was presented with class and style. We were also reassured that each dish was gluten-free as it was brought to the table. We experienced no cross contamination issues and felt that the staff took extra care with our orders.
Service was fantastic. Both the host and servers were informed of our gluten-free diet in advance. The entire staff was very professional. In addition, the manager was around the entire night to greet each table.
The dining room is small, yet cozy and friendly. Le Clos holds on to the historic charm of the original building: a cottage built in 1907.
Each table is beautifully decorated and lit up by candle by night. Le Clos' classy setting makes it the top choice in town for a date night or a special occasion celebration.
Outdoor seating is available for those great mild nights during Northern Florida's desirable winter season. The patio area offers a charming, quiet environment which is perfect for intimate family gatherings. Be aware that there is only one table available, so be sure to make reservations in advance.
