On our way home from our Catskill Mountain vacation trip, Mike and I decided to stop for lunch at Table Talk Diner. As we were passing through Poughkeepsie looking for lunch options, this diner caught our eye due to its' large size. Based on the number of cars parked out front, it looked to be a popular lunch spot in town.

Food

The special of the day was a slice of Broccoli Cheese Quiche with a bowl of soup. Unfortunately, they were sold out of quiche by the time we arrived. I was upset because I love Quiche.

I ended up going with the Veggie Wrap, served with sweet potato fries (extra fee) and a bowl of cream of broccoli soup. I was dissapointed in the quality of the soup - bland with no actual pieces of broccoli.

On the other hand, the sandwich was pretty tasty with a nice healthy mix of veggies (avocado, zucchini, eggplant, roasted red peppers, mixed greens, tomatoes, and vinaigrette dressing).

Mike was not impressed with his South of the Border wrap (Chicken breast, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, and Cajun spices). He felt it was too small for the price ($8.50). In addition, he was dissatisfied with the lack of veggies and dark lettuce in his side salad.

In my opinion, prices were a bit high for diner food, especially when you consider the poor service.

Service

Service wasn't that impressive. Our waitress forgot our pickle and coleslaw, which were supposed to be included with our entrees. Then, she acted as if it was an inconvenience to her to go back and get the food that she forgot!

Atmosphere

The interior is pretty cool with a unique 50s style design. Very clean, bright, and well maintained too. I like the old fashioned atmosphere. The decor is very appealing, from the bar stool counter-top to the old-style booth tables.

Final Remarks

I wouldn't go out of my way to visit Table Talk Diner. I am sure there are better restaurants in town. We only stopped because we noticed it while driving along Route 6 on a return trip from upstate NY. While the food was good, the service and menu prices both need improvement.
