Primanti Bros. is a popular sandwich chain which first opened in Pittsburgh's Strip District in 1933. The now iconic chain started during the Great Depression when Joe Primanti opened a sandwich cart. Today, you can enjoy an iconic Primanti stacked sandwich at 40 different locations through Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. The suburban Moon Township restaurant tends to be a bit more low-key, is easily accessible, and is located nearby many shops if you need to get errands done.
Primantis is most well known for their iconic sandwiches. The humongous sandwich features a meat of your choice, provolone cheese, tomatoes, french fries, and house made coleslaw on thick Italian bread. Lots of choices to pick from including: Colossal Fish and Cheese, Roast Beef and Cheese, Kielbasa and Cheese, Chicken Cordon Bleu, and the Southwestern Black Bean burger for vegetarians.
We tested the Turkey Rachel, the garden salad, and the french fries. The sandwich was decent enough, although the coleslaw on the sandwich was a bit odd tasting. The fries were soggy and not crisp at all while the garden salad was surprisingly good.
The appetizer selection is decent and includes favorites like mac and cheese balls, fried pickles and zucchini, and bavarian pretzels.
Half priced drink deals and $1.50 pizza (bar only) available Mon-Friday from 5-7pm. As a suggestion, I wish they would offer some type of vegetarian sandwich, as I was limited to a side salad and a few appetizers.
Service was decent. Our waiter was friendly and prompt.
Primantis is a great place to catch any sporting event, especially Steelers games. During the games, they frequently offer food and/or drink specials. There is a large bar, plenty of TVs, and sports decor and memorabilia lining the walls. The ambiance is very casual and game friendly. Lots of sports fan around at any given time of the year.
Primantis is a great choice for anyone who wants to enjoy a few drinks, pub appetizers, and a hefty sandwich. Not the best place for vegetarians or anyone else on a restricted diet to the limited menu. However, for those seeking a casual local place to enjoy a Steelers game, Primantis is one of your best bets.
