Review Details

However, I have been here a few times over the years. Portillo’s has locations all over the Chicagoland area and they are best known for their hot dogs and Italian beef. Being a vegetarian, this would not be my first restaurant of choice. That being said, I love their salads and also the amazing french fries and onion rings.

Food

Portillo's offers a number of specialty hot dogs (a new plant-based dog is even available), beef and sausage sandwiches, char-broiled burgers, ribs, and a few pasta entrees. Their crinkle cut fries and onion rings are seriously the best. I cannot comment on the hot dogs as I do not eat meat, but they serve delicious salads and pastas. The Penne Diavolo (a spicy cream based sauce with sun dried tomatoes) and the Baked Mostaccioli are both excellent choices which I have enjoyed. Most people in the Chicagoland area love their hot dogs. They also serve classic shakes and a few desserts like a chocolate eclair cake and strawberry shortcake.

This restaurant is pretty affordable, and thus, a great choice for budget minded diners and anyone dining with a large party seeking affordable comfort fare.

Service

There is no waiter service at this restaurant as you order at the counter. It is always crowded so there is usually a sizable wait.

Atmosphere

This popular restaurant is always very crowded and noisy. Even going on the weekdays there is almost always a sizeable crowd. Sometimes we pick it up to go and other times we dine in.

Final Words

If you are a big fan of hot dogs, beef, and greasy fried foods you will most likely love Portillo's. It's definitely a popular choice with both locals and tourists craving classic American comfort food!
