Gaufres and Goods serves Greek and Polish cuisine in St. Augustine's historic district. Because this cafe is located away from touristy St. George Street, it remains attractively under visited. The food is great and the ambiance is charming.
This family-owned bistro offers a mix of Greek and Polish cuisine. Appetizers include Mediterranean favorites like a hummus plate, a Greek sampler plate, and tzatziki with pita bread. As for entrée choices, you can choose amongst Polish favorites like Pierogies and Greek favorites like Gyro, Feta Pie, and Yemista.
If you have a sweet tooth, you may want to try their popular Gaufres which are basically sugar waffles sprinkled with powdered sugar and your choice of toppings (Nutella, pecans, walnuts, whipped cream, chocolate, jam, or syrup).
The pierogis are a delicious choice, especially if you are seeking something a bit on the lighter side. Cheese, spinach, sauerkraut and mushroom, and meat are available as options.
Another more filling choice is the Greek Special which includes a Greek pie, a small Greek salad, and 2 stuffed grape leaves. The portion is a bit small for the price, however, it's a tasty dish.
Service is mediocre. The waitstaff is slow and a bit on the rude side. Definitely not very friendly or personable.
The ambiance here is very charming. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has that homey vibe not often found in touristy cities. It's definitely a great choice for anyone seeking a non touristy cafe with more of a local flair.
If you are seeking Polish or Greek fare, there is no better choice in the St. Augustine region. Despite the less-than-stellar service, the ambiance and food definitely make this restaurant more than worthy of a lunch stop.
