There is no shortage of great authentic Greek restaurants around the Tampa Bay area. Anyone preferring a more modern atmosphere should look to Acropolis, a Greek chain with 4 convenient Tampa Bay locations. They serve a great menu with a variety of enticing appetizers, fresh wraps, and offer a number of specialty entrees.
While the food here doesn't compare to the Greek restaurants in Tarpon Springs, "the Greek capital of the world," there are a number of great choices.
The standout is the appetizer menu which includes favorites like Saganaki, Spanakopita, Dolmades, Hummus, Tzatziki with pita and much more. The falafel appetizer is the must try here - the best I've tried in Tampa thus far. The menu is a bit on the pricey side, although there are a few good deals. One of these is the Gyro Platter which includes marinated chicken topped with tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki, served with a Greek salad, fries, and pita.
The Greek salad, while refreshing, was a bit disappointing compared to others I have tried in the area.
The menu includes a variety of burgers and sandwiches, a variety of salads, wraps, and house specialities. A few standouts include: Acropolis Seafood, Athenian Fish, Greek Meatballs, and Mousaka "Yia Yia's Recipe!"
Service was definitely below average. Our waitress was socializing with friends instead of providing customers with any service. A huge disappointment especially with the prices they are charging. If service could be improved, the overall dining experience would be much better.
The setting is modern and sleek. The restaurant is really clean, spacious, and attractive. On nicer fall and winter days, you can enjoy the lovely breezy patio.
Acropolis is a decent, albeit far from the best, Greek dining choice in Tampa Bay. That being said, if you happen to be in the vicinity of one of their locations. It's worth visiting for their delicious falafel and pretty ambiance, although service is definitely below average for the area.
