2 Chicks and a Hippy is the local's favorite breakfast joint in Pagosa Springs. After receiving numerous recommendations and hearing about the many gluten-free options available, we decided to test it out. Tasty food (including many gluten-free and vegetarian choices), low pricing, and friendly service earns 2 Chicks its' reputation as the best breakfast in town. This place is a great casual choice before hitting area trails. Update: They remodeled and moved to the current Country Club drive location. We visited the old cafe at 117 Navajo Trail Dr.
They offer a very small breakfast and lunch menu. Although options are limited, the breakfast plates we tried were excellent. The simple Hippy Breakfast (2 eggs, potatoes, sausage, and 2 hotcakes) was a very satisfying start to the day. We swapped gluten-free pancakes for the hotcakes and toast for the sausage with no extra charge.
You will find several gluten-free options here including toast and pancakes. In a town that doesn't cater much to those with food allergies, 2 Chicks is a great option for anyone following a restricted diet.
2 Chicks is definitely the best value in town. Not only are prices very affordable, there are no extra charges for substitutions and added ingredients, a refreshing change.
Surprisingly, 2 Chicks and a Hippy (despite the name) offers very few vegan options. Hopefully, they will expand their menu to include at least one option in the future. Vegetarian options include a Veggie Omelet and Veggie Burrito.
A few examples of breakfast selections include omelets, breakfast burritos, pastries, biscuits and sausage with gravy, and yogurt parfaits. Lunch includes a small selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads. They serve a full espresso menu and also offer smoothies, tea, hot chocolate, and frappuccinos.
Update: It looks like they have added a few more vegetarian items to the menu including: Veggie Gyros, Grilled Parmesan Tomato sandwich, Veggie Tacos, and Oatmeal Cinnamon Toast. Breakfast options are still a bit limited.
Service here was by far the best in town: friendly and accommodating. Our waitress had no problem answering questions in regards to the menu or making substitutions without an attitude.
The indoor dining room was very cramped and noisy, so we chose to sit on the outdoor patio. Despite the chilly morning temperatures, we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. Update: The new space appears much larger and more modern in appeal.
2 Chicks and a Hippy is an excellent breakfast choice in Pagosa if you are seeking great food and a great value. Although the menu is pretty typical without a diverse range of choices, the classic choices are both tasty and filling.
