Best Western Plus Oceanfront is a great choice for a budget friendly hotel along the beautiful Virginia Beach boardwalk. Best Western offers a central location, affordable rates, great views, and great amenities.

Best Western was the perfect choice for our vacation to Virginia Beach. This is the perfect hotel if you want direct access to the beach without the outrageous rates.

Appearance

Best Western has 2 buildings: one is located right along the ocean with 8 floors of rooms, almost all facing the ocean. The other building is located behind the main building with no views. I highly recommend paying the extra $10-20 for the oceanfront building. All rooms have balconies facing the waterfront with gorgeous views.

The hotel itself is a bit outdated and the décor definitely needs to be improved. There isn’t much of a lobby. However, the gorgeous room views more than make up for the outdated hotel. We were not in the hotel much anyways as we were outside enjoying the beautiful spring Virginia Beach weather!

Amenities

There are several amenities offered at Best Western Oceanfront Plus including: an indoor pool and outdoor seasonal pool and hot tub, a game room, a fitness center, a business center, free Wi-Fi, an onsite restaurant and bar, a seasonal ice cream shop, and a continental breakfast buffet.

We did not use the indoor pool or seasonal outdoor pool (located behind the main building). I would have preferred for the pool areas to be located adjacent to the hotel with views of the ocean (like many of the other hotels along the boardwalk).

The fitness center is nice because it faces the ocean; however, it is unnecessary as the boardwalk has a biking and walking path. A game room with various arcade machines is located next to the indoor pool.

There is a small business center with computers and fax machines available for guest use. In addition, all rooms have complimentary Wi-Fi access available. The onsite restaurant, Shoreline Grill, is worth a visit.

Food was good, prices were affordable, and views of the ocean were fantastic. Happy Hour runs from 4:00-6:00pm. It is nice to have an onsite restaurant rather than wasting time trying to look up somewhere to eat. There is also an onsite ice cream shop, open from May-September.

The continental breakfast buffet was better than most other hotels we have stayed at; however, it was crazy crowded. I can’t imagine how crowded it gets during the busier summer months! You had to wait in line a long time to get your food.

In addition to the normal continental items such as oatmeal, fruits, toast, pastries, juices, there were also a few hot items such as scrambled eggs, potatoes, and French toast sticks. The breakfast is held in the Shoreline Grill, so you get nice views of the water while enjoying your meal.

Price

We found a great rate of $100 per night. We could have received an even cheaper rate if we booked earlier – this was the price one day prior to check in. For a prime location right on the boardwalk, this really was a steal. Many other hotels in the area were priced much higher.

Rates vary depending on season, with pricing as low as $76. We were looking for a hotel right on the boardwalk so we could walk out the door and be able to use the bike path and walking path. Even though it isn’t the fanciest hotel, we got the views and direct access to the beach that we desired.

Room

The room is very old and outdated. The beds are not very comfortable. The bathroom was pretty small and outdated. However, there is a flat screen TV, coffee maker, and fridge for convenience.

The highlight of the room is the balcony (if you choose to stay in the main oceanfront building). We had a choice of an upper or lower floor – we ended up getting the top floor (8th). I recommend getting an upper floor for the best views and the least amount of noise, especially during the crazy summer months.

Final Remarks

Overall, Best Western Oceanfront Plus is a good stay for those looking for direct access to the beach and great views from your room. Yes, the hotel is a bit rundown and outdated. However, if convenience is what you are looking for – then you will get it.

An onsite restaurant and bar, ocean views, and walking right out to the beach are the amenities that make this hotel worth the stay. How often will you actually be in the hotel anyways? I will take an older hotel right on the beach over a fancy hotel miles away any day. I take a beach vacation to spend time at the beach!
