Mohegan Sun: 5 star fun in Connecticut!
I have been to the Mohegan Sun several times this past month. I am sure most of you have heard of this casino, being that it is the 2nd largest in the U.S. For those of you who haven’t heard anything about it, Mohegan Sun is a 5 star casino located in Southeastern Connecticut about 8 miles from Foxwoods, one of the biggest in the world.
I prefer the Mohegan Sun as it looks newer, is cleaner, has better restaurants, and better shopping. The poker room was really nice with plenty of games going on, nice comfortable chairs, and the tables that were spread out enough to prevent people looking over your shoulder all the time (I felt that Foxwoods poker room was too cramped, although huge).
The shopping section is fantastic with plenty of high end and casual retailers. Food choice range from casual (such as Johnny Rockets) to fine dining choices such as Todd English’s Tuscany and Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse. I recently tried out the Season’s Buffet which was excellent although a bit pricey. The salad and dessert bar could be improved, but plenty of hot entrees available for every taste. I really enjoyed the variety of soups available (there were 6 – butternut squash was my favorite!) I recommend going for the breakfast (which is about half the price of dinner).
The spa looks very nice, although I have not been able to try it out yet. Hopefully, in the near future… I recommend visiting Mohegan Sun sometime this month before they take down their grand holiday decorations, which include a gigantic walk through gingerbread house and a 16 foot wreath over the Falls. Mohegan Sun is a great destination with a little something for everyone; whether you are interested in gaming, shopping, or trying a new restaurant you are bound to have some fun!
