The 3 mile long Virginia Beach boardwalk features a separate biking and walking path. Being an avid cyclist I really appreciated the separate path. Visiting during April was the perfect time as there were barely any other cyclists on the paths. The weather (low 80s) was beautiful for a bike ride. The views of the Atlantic Ocean along the path are extraordinary. I love the variety of outdoor dining options along the path. There are plenty of bike paths to lock up your bike while stopping for a quick snack or lunch.
If you do not have your own bike, there are several options for renting bikes and roller blades along the path. Cherie’s Bicycle and Blade Rentals is one of the major spots for rentals – if you look in the coupon books (from your hotel or located in various stands throughout the city) you will find various discounts off different rentals. The family bikes look like a fun way to explore the boardwalk with a group of people.
The Virginia Beach boardwalk bike path is an easy, flat ride. It is a great way to get some exercise in during your vacation without totally wearing yourself down. In my opinion, the bike path is one of the best ways to see the entire boardwalk. Another aspect of the bike path is that you can cover 6 miles in a relatively short time, which is a great option for those with limited time or other activities planned for the day. One of the cleanest boardwalk/beaches I have ever seen! I always felt completely safe even at night because of the lights.
