6. See a show

Mac King Comedy show at Harrah's in Las Vegas, Nevada

How could you possibly plan a Vegas vacation without making time for at least one incredible show?! The best part of a Vegas trip is the show, whether you are interested in comedy, music, magic, even ventriloquism (Vegas has it all and more). One must-see option is the Mac King Comedy show, taking place 2 times each afternoon at Harrah’s. This gifted magician somehow combines comedy and magic, and surprisingly, it works! Other great options include: Penn and Teller, Cirque du Soleil, and David Copperfield.

Update: Mac King has moved to the Excalibur.

7. Enjoy some fun in the sun at a Vegas pool

The beautiful Mirage swimming pool in Las Vegas, Nevada

When booking your Vegas hotel, you must keep in mind the resort’s pool. As resort’s fees are so high today, the pool is an amenity worth looking into. A few resorts known for their fabulous pools include Tropicana, The Mirage, MGM Grand, The Flamingo, and Mandalay Bay. One of the top perks of your hotel is the access to the pool area, so choose wisely. After spending several hours walking The Strip in the intense desert sun, you will want to cool down and relax before heading out into the heat again. The Mirage, a lush tropical oasis with tons of palms trees and several waterfalls, is my top pick in town.

8. Check out The Mirage Aquarium

In the Mirage lobby, a grand 20,000 gallon saltwater tank filled with all different species of colorful, exotic fish takes center stage. It’s beautiful enough to warrant a visit, even if you are not staying at the hotel. Seeing this tank always reminds me of the Chevy Chase classic “National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation.”

Update: Sadly, The Mirage will be demolished in summer of 2022. Hard Rock will take its’ place.

9. Take a break from shopping to catch the Fall of Atlantis Show

This entertaining animatronic show is conveniently located inside The Forum Shops. After walking around for what seems like hours through this massive shopping complex, your feet will thank you. The show runs every hour (Thurs-Mon) starting around noon. Also be sure to check out the massive 50,000 gallon fish tank, located nearby.

10. Head off The Strip for an hour or so to see The Fremont Street Experience

The must see light show on Fremont Street in Las Vegas, Nevada

Each night starting at dusk, the Viva Vision Light show treats guests to an amazing free light and music show. Right before the show, all the casino lights go off, with only the bright lights of the show brightening up the skies. It is really incredible and the soundtrack is great (The Who, Bon Jovi, and The Doors). That being said, I am not a big fan of the casinos or atmosphere around Fremont Street. Nevertheless, making the trek over solely to see this show is a must, especially for first time visitors. For a real exhilarating experience, you can take a high adrenaline zip lining ride right beneath the lights!

11. Watch a pilot for a new TV series

Ever wondered how your favorite series made it on the air? At CBS Television Research Center inside the MGM Grand, you can screen a pilot for a potential show and give your honest feedback. Your opinion could be the difference in whether or not the show actually makes the cut. Overall, this is an interesting, free, and fun experience that only takes an hour or so. Plus, it is sorta cool knowing that if the show makes it on the air, you actually had a part in making it happen! Plus, you will be rewarded for your time with loads of valuable coupons.

12. Stroll through the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens

The beautiful Bellagio Botanical Gardens theme varies throughout the season. During the holidays, it turns into a gorgeous winter wonderland. The highlight of the year is the extravagant Christmas display featuring thousands of flowers and beautiful poinsettias.
