Barracuda is a casual, family-owned Caribbean Mexican fusion cafe primarily known for their Cuban sandwich. Give Barracuda a try if you are seeking an affordable, local establishment which serves great food in a no frills setting.
Update: The St. Pete location has closed. However, you can still enjoy great Cuban food at the Seminole location.
Barracuda's menu includes a variety of hot pressed sandwiches, wraps, along with typical Mexican fare. Although the "Best Cuban" is the most popular menu item, there are a number of great selections to consider.
The Turkey and Pepper Jack is delicious. Each sandwich is priced at $10-13 and includes potato salad, pasta salad, or beans and rice. Fries are $1 extra but totally worth it - they are the best in the area! So crispy and perfectly seasoned.
Another great option here is the Barracuda bowl, which is available in either a meat or veggie version. Pretty simple, yet healthy and filling with black or red beans, lettuce, your choice of meat or veggies, tomato, cheese, and cilantro.
Other Mexican entrees include enchiladas, quesadillas, tacos, and burritos. Portions are on the larger side, so leftovers are likely. Not a lot of direct vegetarian options, however, you can omit the meat in most Mexican entrees.
The service here was great. Our Americano was a bit too dark for us, and our server was nice enough to make us a new one.
The ambiance is very basic, no frills really. This is a low-key place, and thus, a great choice for anyone who wants to avoid tourist crowds. I like coming here for a casual meal after a long day walking at a preserve, biking, or visiting the beach.
Barracuda is a nice laid-back dining choice after enjoying any area activities like St. Pete Beach. Great Mexican and Cuban food and affordable pricing easily put this local cafe above many of the tourist traps in the region.
