The Turquoise Room is an award-winning restaurant in the historic La Posada Hotel in Winslow, Arizona. It's a great road trip stop for anyone on a Route 66 trip. When you dine at The Turquoise Room, you will be able to test out some unique Southwestern style food, in a beautiful old hotel. After your meal, you can stroll the hotel's 12 acres of lovely gardens. For anyone traveling through the area, The Turquoise Room is worth a stop for the wonderful unique cuisine served in a gorgeous setting.
The Turquoise Room offers a truly eclectic menu which focuses on Arizona style cuisine, with an abundance of dishes based on Navajo and Hopi crops.
The standout appetizer is the Piki Bread with Hopi Hummus, which includes 2 piki breads made by Joyce Saufkie of Second Mesa, served with an absolutely delicious hummus, made by using reservation grown Tepary beans mixed with pit roasted corn, corn and sunflower oils. The flaky, blue corn piki bread is so different and delicious: you will definitely debate whether or not to put in a second order!
Another must try is the Signature Soup and Salad Combo: the perfect option for travelers looking for a light, yet delicious lunch. Their signature black bean and cream of corn soup is just outstanding. You cannot leave without trying this amazing soup!
For lunch, I recommend the Roast Turkey and Swiss Sandwich on toasted sourdough bread. For dinner, The Killer Vegetable Plate is sure to please both vegetarians and meat eaters. This fabulous dish includes a combo of all different types of vegetables including a blue corn tamale stuffed with squash, corn, and mushrooms, fresh corn on the cob and sauteed vegetables, a chili stuffed with cheese and topped with papaya salsa, and much more.
For dessert, you can't go wrong with a double chocolate souffle. Accompany your sweet treat with a wonderful espresso drink. The Turquoise Room serves organic coffee, roasted by Late for the Train, the best local roaster in the Flagstaff area.
Update: The Hopi Hummus appetizer is sadly no longer available. The Stuffed Squash Blossoms (their signature app) sounds like a wonderful alternative. This app basically consists of squash and sweet corn tamale and oaxaca cheese fried and served with corn salsa. Recent menu selections include: Shrimp Pappardelle Pasta, Chicken Mole, and Potato Wrapped Halibut. The Killer Vegetable plate has been replaced by the Southwest Vegetable plate. This healthy dish consists of a Hemp tamale, roasted-corn flan & wild mushrooms, a corn masa empanada (currant, quinoa, and pine nut filling), a grilled chili stuffed with 3 types of cheeses and topped with tofu, papaya salsa, grilled cheese, asparagus, and steamed seasonal vegetables
Service was professional, very attentive, and friendly: a refreshing change from the mediocre service typically offered in this region.
The Turquoise Room is located in the La Posada Hotel, frequently regarded as one of the best hotels in the world. The dining room is elegant with lots of beautiful Native American art decorating the walls. Compared to other restaurants in this area, dining here truly is a pleasant experience. After your meal, definitely check out the gorgeous hotel and gardens. I first visited this hotel on a Rt 66 drive. I loved this place so much that I returned for another meal even though it is located a good hour from where I live in Flagstaff.
A stop at The Turquoise Room for lunch is a must-do for anyone traveling through Winslow, or staying in nearby towns like Flagstaff or Williams. A wonderful eclectic menu of local Arizona foods, attentive servers, and a beautiful dining room, come together to create a perfect and unique to Arizona dining experience.
