One of the best places for a nice brunch date in downtown Tucson is The Coronet. This is an upscale European style bistro which features a great menu of international cuisine. The charming ambiance, professional service, eclectic menu, and great food presentation, make it one of the better spots in the city for a fine dining brunch experience.
The Coronet is most popular with those seeking an eclectic foodie brunch dining experience, although it is also a popular dinner destination as the elegant atmosphere makes it a great place for a fancy date.
Brunch is my favorite time to visit as it is never overly crowded and they have a beautiful outdoor patio, which is just perfect on cool fall and spring desert mornings.
The brunch menu offers a number of interesting choices. The Eggs and Hominy and Eggs Florentine are both worthy of a try.
The great thing about The Coronet is that they work with many local companies, including Barrio Bread: the best bakery in town. While you are here, be sure to try the delicious sourdough from this artisan bakery. The coffee is delicious as well as they use beans from local roaster Cafe Luce.
Update: This cafe changes its' menu frequently based on local fruit and vegetable availability. Recent highlights include: Curried Carrot soup, Tuna Melt, and a Breakfast Bowl featuring poached eggs, black beans, and potatoes topped with cotija cheese, green chili, and a cilantro lime crema sauce. Dinner highlights include: Vegetable Pakoras and Cornish Pastry.
Service at The Coronet is both professional and attentive, making it the perfect choice for those seeking more of an upscale dining experience for a date or special occasion.
The ambiance is charming, both inside or out. If it is cool enough, I recommend enjoying a seat on the pretty patio, featuring an attractive bistro style setting, similar to the sidewalk cafes you frequently come across in Europe. Update: I visited the cafe on Meyer Street. They also have a restaurant located on Cushing Street in Barrio Viejo. The restaurant is more of a fine dining experience.
The Coronet is one of your best bets if you are seeking a fine dining experience, complete with classy service and interesting menu choices. If you find yourself downtown attending a show at the Fox theater, a meal at The Cornet is the perfect complimentary activity.
