Review Details

Caruso's is one of your best bets for a quality Italian dining experience in Tucson. This authentic long-running gem is located on historic 4th Avenue in downtown Tucson. Caruso's opened in 1938 and is still run by the Zagona family. For anyone seeking a traditional Old-world Italian ambiance and classic home-cooked meals, Caruso's is definitely your best bet in the Tucson region. I really loved that they offered a vegetarian lasagna (which was delicious). This is my Italian restaurant of choice if I will be doing anything downtown like seeing a show at the Fox theater.

Food

Caruso's offers a classic menu of traditional Italian fare. You can find it all here, with a nice selection of delicious raviolis, lasagna, and pizza on the menu. I loved the complimentary basket of garlic bread: it held us over until our entrees arrived.

Caruso's offers a number of great lunch combo deals. The ravioli/pasta combination is a great choice. With this special, you get to choose between meat or cheese ravioli and amongst a selection of pasta sauces (the Alfredo is so delicious!).

The great thing about Caruso's is that they offer a number of vegetarian options including a wonderful veggie lasagna dish.

If you are a seafood lover, you are in luck as Caruso's offers a number of tempting plates like Shrimp and Scallops Alfredo, Shrimp Mediterranean, and Pasta with Clam sauce.

Basically, Caruso's offers a great lineup of Italian fare for everyone in your party. The food is delicious, authentic, and affordably priced.

Update: Pricing is a bit higher as of 2025. Expect to pay between $20-29 for each pasta entree, which seafood dishes priced near the higher end.

Service

Servers are attentive and friendly here, although the overall vibe is more casual. Caruso's is a great choice for those seeking a laid-back, authentic Italian dining experience. Not the fanciest place for a date, but the decor is appealing enough for a casual dinner out.

Atmosphere

The decor at Caruso's is traditional and charming. The interior is cozy with a homestyle appeal and classic checkerboard tables. Outside, you will find a gorgeous patio surrounded by trees and shaded. I would love to sit out here during the cooler spring and fall seasons. Caruso's offers one of the best patios in Tucson, so it's definitely worthy of a visit if you are a fan of al fresco dining.

Final Words

Caruso's is a wonderful pre-show lunch/dinner destination, or simply a great place for a date night out in the city. You really cannot go wrong with the homemade ravioli or create your own pasta selection.
