Mamma Luisa's is a fantastic local Italian restaurant on historic Thames Street in Newport, Rhode Island. Our stop here for dinner was the perfect choice for a romantic night out. I recommend Mamma Luisa for date nights, celebrations, and other special events. Not only is the food fabulous, but the setting so romantic for a fine dining experience.
The menu at Mamma Luisa includes appetizers, pasta dishes, and main courses. Pasta choices include: Penne Arrabiata, Spaghetti Carbonara, and Tagliatelle al Ragu Bolognese. They offer 4 bruschetta specialities: Fava Bean, Funghi, Goat Cheese, and Caprese. Conveniently, a separate vegetarian menu is available and there are many great choices to choose amongst.
The food at Mamma Luisa was wonderful. I was so excited to find Butternut Squash Ravioli on the menu as it is one of my favorite dishes and very hard to find! It did not disappoint! I can't wait to try a similar recipe myself at home.
Mike ordered a specialty pasta dish, which consisted of pasta tossed with olive oil, garlic, mushroom, black olives, and some crushed red pepper to add a little spice. We both tried each others dishes and decided they were both equally fantastic! Prices are reasonable for the quality of the home-cooked entrees.
This restaurant is great for vegetarians as they offer a separate menu with many quality options. A few enticing options include Ravioli alle Fave (Ricotta and basil filled ravioli, fava beans and flavorful vegetarian tomato sauce rich in garlic) and Bombette Pomodoro e Arugola (Homemade ricotta and spinach gnocchi with marinara).
Service was friendly and professional. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and quick to offer suggestions. Service definitely makes a huge difference in the overall dining experience. Great service is often what brings me back.
The atmosphere inside is perfect with a casual, comfortable, dining at home feeling. The decor is serene with a garden-like elegance. This is a small, quiet, restaurant which is perfect for dates and special occasions. I prefer to dine at the cozier, more personal Italian restaurants.
I would highly recommend visiting Mamma Luisa Italian Ristorante. You will be treated with impeccable service while enjoying an authentic, home cooked meal in a cozy dining room. I can't wait to come back and enjoy the Butternut Squash Ravioli again.
