Las Vegas is a one-of-a-kind city. Known as "America's Playground," Las Vegas offers endless entertainment options for everyone. What once started out solely as a gambling destination is now a world class entertainment destination with top end shows, luxury spas, amenity loaded resorts, and endless attractions (many of which are completely free to visit). Browse through my list of 10 fun things to do in Vegas and be sure to add 1 or 2 into your next Vegas trip!

    Be sure to plan some time to watch the spectacular free water, music and light show which displays throughout the day in front of the Bellagio Casino and Hotel. The fountain show is a fascinating display which combines a water show, along with lights and synchronized music.

    Located inside the MGM, The CBS Television Research Center offers you the opportunity to help decide which TV shows will make it on the air, with free screenings of pilots for new TV shows.

    A screening is about 20 minutes, followed by a 15 minute survey. After the screening, you will fill out a survey on your thoughts about the program. It's cool to know that you had a hand in deciding if that particular show made it on the air! You will receive a booklet with various discounts off MGM Resort restaurants & shops.

    There are all sorts of fantastic shows to see in Vegas, from top end magic shows like David Copperfield, to exciting musical performances from big name artists, to the popular Cirque du Soleil shows.

    One of the best options combines a bit of comedy with a bit of magic, along with some audience interaction. The Mac King Comedy Show, running daily at Harrah's, is one of the most entertaining shows in all of Vegas, plus it's totally affordable too!

    One of the most unique attractions in Las Vegas is the 3 story Shark Chute at the Golden Nugget's pool. As you make your way down, you will be going right through a shark tank! You must plan on staying at the Golden Nugget for access to what has been rated one of the world's most unique pools, however, non hotel guests can still take a look at the shark tank.

    The famous volcano show at The Mirage runs from 7-11pm every night. This show simulates an actual volcano eruption and is worth a stop or 2! Massive fireballs shoot out into the air and are accompanied by a great soundtrack! Get there early for the best views!

    Located on the 23rd floor of the beautiful Mandarin Oriental hotel is a classy, zen-like tea room with the most amazing views of the Las Vegas Strip. While you feast on a stunning display of treats and a delicious pot of tea, you will be able to recover from all the craziness of The Strip while still taking in the gorgeous views. Mandarin Oriental's tea room may just offer the best views of The Strip in town!

    A lush tropical rainforest including palm trees and waterfalls is located inside the Mirage Hotel and Casino, right near the lobby. Nothing too extravagant, just a great place to take a break for a few minutes from all the action outside! And while you are here, be sure to check out the massive aquarium behind the check in desk (seen in the film "Vegas Vacation.")

    It's no secret that Vegas is home to some of the best resort pools in the country. The Travel Channel and other news sources frequently spotlight all the fantastic pools in the area.

    Tropicana was rated as one of the best hotel pools by the Travel Channel, although you must be a hotel guest to use the pools. Lush tropical landscaping, waterfalls, a pool bar, and several hot tubs make this pool area an ideal getaway!

    Another amazing pool is the tropical inspired oasis at The Mirage. One can easily spend an entire day sunning & relaxing amidst the tropical surroundings.

    The 6 minute Viva Vision Light Show is a spectacular, free show held every night on Fremont Street. The exhilarating show features fun music and special effects across a gigantic 1500 foot wide screen with over 12 million LED lights!

    Right before the show, all of the casino lights go dark and thousands of people crowd the streets to watch all the excitement. For an even more thrilling experience, you can ride a zip-line right under the lights!
  • 10. Walk around The Strip

    Despite all the shows, attractions, dining, & entertainment, the best thing of all to do in Vegas (especially for first time visitors) is to simply walk around The Strip! Check out all the dazzling lights and beautiful architecture. Walk around the inside of all the casinos and check out all their unique attributes. And for the best views of Vegas, just walk up the stairs near Planet Hollywood for one-of-a-kind views and photos!
