Le Petit Cafe is a family-owned business on the south side of Pittsburgh. What started as a small bakery and coffee shop has now blossomed into a full service cafe. In addition to ordering from the menu, you can also pre order cupcakes, cookies, and other treats.

Food

At Le Petit Cafe, all food is made fresh on-site using locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast includes all the standard fare like omelets, breakfast sandwiches, pancakes and French toast. A great choice "on the healthier" side is the Veggie Hash, a savory blend of hash browns, grilled onions, roasted red peppers, zucchini, spinach, feta and American cheese, balsamic reduction, topped with 3 eggs and served with toast. The serving size is adequate, just right for a filling and satisfying breakfast.

The coffee is just alright, although it's nice to enjoy a decent cup of coffee with breakfast over visiting a separate coffeeshop. Unfortunately, they forgot about our coffee until th end of the meal.

Lunch includes a variety of wraps, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. They serve only hormone-free, Halal meats. One nice healthy lunch choice here is the Grilled Vegetable Platter served with rice pilaf, a chopped cucumber, tomato, onion salad with citrus herb vinaigrette and feta, and pita bread.

Service

Unfortunately, there is no waiter service and the line to order at the counter is often long. It also tends to get cramped fast due to the tiny space limits. It's a bit hard to order at the counter with all the commotion - scan the menu online in advance to avoid the extra hassle.

Service is slow and not very attentive. Our waiter forgot our espresso drink and did not bring it over until well after our meal.

Atmosphere

This cafe is really small and can get busy on the weekends. It's best to plan your visit on a weekday or arrive early as possible for brunch. Despite the cramped setting, the decor is nice enough. Do grab a seat by the window if you can.

Final Remarks

Le Petit Cafe is a decent choice for brunch or lunch on the south side of Pittsburgh. Despite the heavy weekend traffic and sub par service, the food and ambiance both combine to make it a decent choice for a brunch date in the city.
