Food

Chinatown Inn serves the best Chinese food in the Pittsburgh metro. At one point, they only served Cantonese food, however, the menu has expanded to include Szechuan and Hunan dishes as well.

The best time to visit is during lunch hours (11am-3pm, Noon on Saturdays) to take advantage of the lunch special. At this time, you can enjoy a selected entree plus soup or an egg roll or egg foo young and plain or fried rice for under 15 bucks. It's the best deal downtown and everything is delicious.

The egg flower soup is particularly delicious, although the egg rolls are not very good - very bland and not crispy at all, although they are humongous. There are lots of entrees to choose amongst including beef, chicken, seafood, vegetarian, and combo plates. Both the veggie fried rice and lo mein are great healthy veggie packed options to enjoy.

The hot pot is a popular choice during the colder winter months. This warming dish includes a variety of meats, veggies, and seasonings/sauces in a simmering broth. There are a number of great options available including a Seafood Combo featuring sauteed lobster tails, jumbo shrimp, scallops in a ginger and garlic sauce, and a Veggie Delight featuring Chinese black mushrooms, eggplant, string beans, carrots, fresh bruised bean curd with napa, and baby corn in a brown garlic sauce.

Complimentary tea with every meal is a bonus.

Service

Service is typically good, but can be slow and rushed on busy afternoons. Waiters can be inattentive during peak periods.

Atmosphere

The setting is beautiful for an afternoon lunch date or celebratory occasion. The decor is really attractive and the space clean. There is a beautiful aquarium right when you walk in and the dining room is colorful with lots of plants. Even the plates they use are gorgeous. The dining room is intimate and cozy with a nice historic touch. Overall, it is one of the most attractive dining spaces in the city.
