Doc Taylor’s is a breakfast and lunch local hotspot located near the boardwalk in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This restaurant was packed on a weekday morning and seems to be very popular with the locals!

Most tourists probably wouldn’t think of visiting this restaurant as it is located a few blocks from the boardwalk. However, this was the best breakfast by far during our Virginia Beach vacation!

Food

The menu at Doc's offers a decent side menu of traditional breakfast fare. You will also find a lot of unique specialties not typically found on standard breakfast menus. Most items on the menu veer toward the unhealthy side i.e. "The Heart Attack" featuring three eggs, two bacon strips, two sausage, hash browns & toast with a chop.

Fortunately, I was able to find something with veggies. I went with the vegetarian quiche, served with fresh fruit. The quiche was fantastic, homemade and delicious!

Mike ordered a southwest breakfast burrito, which he said was good, although not the best he has ever had. Serving sizes here are pretty large, especially for the price.

The breakfast menu is pretty standard and includes traditional favorites like omelets, French toast and pancakes, and Eggs Benedict. Healthier options include Granola Pancakes, a Greek Omelet, and Sweet Potato Pecan Pancakes.

Service

Our waitress was friendly and gave us no problem over fixing a problem in the kitchen (accidentally gave us the wrong burrito). I liked the upbeat atmosphere of the staff.

Atmosphere

The restaurant is housed in a charming old cottage, giving it more of a home style, laid-back setting. Doc Taylor's is an extremely popular restaurant – I can’t imagine what it looks like on a weekend! Luckily a table opened just as we arrived. We were able to get a seat on the outdoor patio – not much of a view but still nice to sit outside on a beautiful spring day.

Final Remarks

I recommend planning a stop at Doc Taylor’s on your trip to Virginia Beach. It is located a bit off the boardwalk, but worth the drive or walk. You get a lot of great, homemade food for your money. Now, if they just moved this restaurant to the boardwalk with some ocean views it would be perfect!
