Ohana Cafe - Palm Harbor, Florida

UPDATE 2023: Ohana Cafe in Dunedin has closed. They have merged with their sister cafe, Ohana Fresh in Palm Harbor. You will be able to order many of the same menu items. They offer a nice little patio if you can handle the Florida heat! Below is a pic of a Banana Blueberry smoothie and acai bowl which I recently ordered. Pricey, but healthy and fresh! Their coffee is great as well!

Update: Ohana is now located in Dunedin. Although the location has changed, the food is still fantastic!

This weekend, Mike and I had the pleasure of trying out Ohana Café, a great local Hawaiian style restaurant in Palm Harbor, Florida. For those of you unfamiliar, Palm Harbor is a small community located about 20 minutes from Clearwater and 40 minutes from Tampa. This particular section of Palm Harbor, where Ohana Café is located, has an interesting vibe. You will find many unique restaurants, most decorated in an island style theme.

The outdoor dining area at Ohana is great for enjoying a weekend night out with friends or families. A bit warm and humid on the night we visited, but a great option on cooler nights. Plus, if you get lucky you might get to see some hula dancers (check the website for a live entertainment schedule).

Ohana Café offers a great menu, which includes choices for all different types of diets, including: vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Each sandwich or wrap can be served with a gluten-free brown rice wrap, which has a bit of a different texture than wheat, but still tastes great!

The menu is marked according to allergens, however, if you have a question the staff is more than willing to assist. Most of the produce they use is organic and they only use antibiotic free meats and cheeses. They carry a nice selection of gluten-free beers and organic wines as well. Lots of dishes incorporate the use of local fruits and veggies. All food freshly prepared from scratch. No MSG or high fructose corn syrup are used.

During lunch hours, you will find a great selection of wraps, sandwiches, and appetizers. Dinner options include sandwiches, tacos and burritos. Breakfast includes a varied selection of familiar and new dishes including: oatmeal bowls, omelets, smoothies, salads, sandwiches, and more.

Breakfast at Ohana

For breakfast, we usually order the Very Veggie Omelet or the amazing plant based pancakes (also GF). Both dishes are filling and delicious. Their smoothies and house coffee are also amazing.

Lunch at Ohana

On our first lunch visit, we ordered the very vegan tacos and the black bean quinoa burritos. We mixed and matched so we both got to experience a bit of both flavors. They were both terrific, especially the vegan tacos.

As you can see in the picture below, the Very Vegan tacos were stuffed to the brim with plenty of black beans, a cilantro lime slaw, bell peppers, and avocado! Delicious! I now make my own version of these tacos at home all the time!

The Black Bean Quinoa burrito was an interesting healthy combination with a bit of a Hawaiian kick: black beans, quinoa, spinach, onions, cilantro lime slaw, tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, and pineapple slices.

I would definitely visit Ohana again! We enjoyed the variety of nutritious dining options and the lively outdoor dining atmosphere.
